群馬県の巨大企業赤木グループの会長・総一郎と妾の間に生まれた赤木軍馬は、天才的なドライビング・テクニックを持つ高校生。口癖は「何人（なんぴと）たりとも俺の前は走らせねぇ」。総一郎が中央政界に進出するため赤木家を勘当された軍馬は、天才的なメカニック技術を持つ親友の大石タモツとレーサーになるために上京し、免許取得を目指す。
